What we've been up to

Hello Cassie! Our conversation on the phone was a little confused so I thought I'd create a simple web page to explain...

Cars and Campervans

So years ago (2008 to be exact) we bought our 1972 Volkvagen Campervan that we called George. It looked great! However it was a real pain for Caroline to drive, broke down every so often and drank oil and petrol like nothing else. It was very phortogenic but it wasn't the most practical as a way to get about...

Here's George in Wales...

So at the end of 2011 we travelled to Dudley, Birmingham and picked up a new van - a Mazda Bongo. Actually it wasn't very new at all since it had 1998 plates, however it was a decent runner and meant we could sell George as well as our car at the time and not only drive round Glasgow but get us to Spain and back!

"Freddie" Bongo

This it did fairly happily 2013 and 2014 though it had an alarming tendency to loose internal dashboard lights meaning you had no idea how fast you were going. Then at the start of 2015, about a week before we were about to head off to Spain again the Bongo suddenly had a real problem. Caroline was driving it up Great Western Raod when there was a stranghe creaking noice and the handling seemed to completely go. When she got out she found the front wheels were pointing in different directions! Apparently the wishbone had broken. This seeme pretty final for poor Freddie but we were all booked up for Spain and we still wanted to go. We'd just need to buy a new car. After a few days searching we settled on a Citroen Berlingo. You can't camp in it but it gives pretty good fuel efficiency and it takes all the stuff we want to Spain for three months.
